Trev is driving way too fast to El Paso, Texas
Trev: Woohoo! Yeah! This baby's got some balls!
Wei: Slow down or we'll crash!
Trev: Don't worry! I've got things under control.
Wei: But we're doing over ninety mph. That's illegal.
Trev: Do you see any cops around here?
Wei: No, but maybe they're hiding.
Trev: Pigs ain't that smart. All they care about is eatin’ donuts.
Wei: Speakin’ of cops, what's that behind us?
Trev: Aw, man! A police car.
Wei: You better let me do the talking.

★ Someone's got some balls.
★ crash (v.)
★ mph (n.) = miles per hour 时速……英里
★ cop (n.)
★ let someone do the talking

While most armies in the world shun their use, and military authorities exclude them from warfare, the technology to produce biological and chemical weapons is widely available. Moreover, these weapons are cheap, easy to conceal, and very effective. Since September 11, 2001, biological weapons seem to have become the weapon of choice among the disenfranchised militants of the world. Some people are worried chemical warfare may follow.

He's a thoroughbred boxer with an outstanding pedigree.

对话
Jack: Is that your new dog?
Jill: Yes, we've only had him a week.
Jack: He's really handsome and very lively.
Jill: He should be, he cost a fortune.
Jack: Why was he so expensive?
Jill: He's a thoroughbred Boxer with an outstanding pedigree that's why.We got him from a top breeder.
Jack: Do you intend to show him?
Jill: We're not sure; we'll take the breeder's advice on that.

‘纯种’英文叫thoroughbred,作形容词或动词都可以,例如:The thoroughbred(或thoroughbred horse)won the race。 (1) Her boyfriend is a real thoroughbred; he will make a good husband(她的男朋友很有教养,会是个好丈夫)。(2) Tom is always showing off his thoroughbred sports car(汤姆经常夸示他那辆名贵跑车)。杂种的动物,则叫mongrel,例如:I got my mongrel(或mongrel dog)from the animal shelter(我从动物庇护所领养了这只杂种狗)。 This horse has a long pedigree(这匹马有很长的血统纪录)。A pedigree(d) dog/horse即‘有血统纪录的狗/马’。 Do you intend to show him?这等于Do you intend to enter him in a dog show? He showed a thoroughbred chestnut at the horse show即‘他在马展中展出一匹纯种褐色马’。 Every Jack has his Jill即‘男人总有和他匹配的女人’。A jack of all trades就是‘什么都懂一点的人’,例如:The school janitor should be able to do gardening, carpentry and electrical repairs. In short, he must be a jack of all trades(学校工人须懂园艺、木工、电器维修,总之,要是个万事通)。
